53ft Reefer Trailer Loading Calculator
Use the refrigerated-trailer profile rather than dry-van dimensions. Keep required air-return routes clear and verify trailer-specific axle and weight limits.
Test the quantity you enter and review placed and unplaced cargo. This is a planning estimate, not a maximum-capacity guarantee or transport approval.
Use the 53 ft reefer trailer loading planner to test a specified loaded-pallet or carton order, not a universal capacity claim. CBM3’s 53RFT reference is 1590 x 247.4 x 268 cm internally. Its cargo payload and rear-door opening remain unknown; airflow space and refrigeration equipment intrusion are not automatically deducted. Geometric placement is only one part of refrigerated freight planning.

Open the 53RFT loading planner. This is an initial equipment selection for a new job, not an automatic calculation. Confirm the equipment shown; saved jobs and your own changes take priority.
Current planning profile
| Profile field | Configured value |
|---|---|
| Planning length x width x height (cm) | 1,590 x 247.4 x 268 |
| Default rear-door width x height (cm) | Unknown; no default check |
| Configured cargo ceiling (kg) | Unknown; not verified |
| Rectangular reference volume (m3) | 105.422 |
| Airflow / refrigeration geometry | Not modelled by this preset |
The default profile is rectangular. Its recorded maximum gross value of 30,844 kg is not net cargo payload: actual tare, refrigeration equipment and operating limits are not fully specified here. Door clearance, air chutes, return-air space and cooling-unit intrusion are not automatically deducted. A catalog-approved reference does not certify the assigned vehicle or cold chain.
Compare with an identified equipment example
| Source field | Published value or exact conversion |
|---|---|
| Interior length | 52 ft 2 in = 1,590.04 cm |
| Interior width, lining to lining | 97.4 in = 247.396 cm |
| Interior height | 105.5 in = 267.97 cm |
| GVWR, not cargo payload | 68,000 lb |
| Standard weight | 11,950 lb; refrigeration unit excluded |
| Rear-door opening | No numeric opening in the cited specification table |
Source: Hyundai Translead ThermoTech specifications. This is one manufacturer specification, not every 53 ft reefer. CBM3 rounds its dimensional reference. Standard weight excludes the refrigeration unit, so subtracting it from GVWR is not an approved cargo limit. Neither the cited table nor this preset supplies a numeric door opening.
Reproduce two entered-order examples
Use metric units and switch palletization off: example A already includes the pallet base in its outer dimensions and gross unit weight. Do not add pallet height or tare again. Set Horizontal Only rotation, This Side Up on, Stackable off, Fragile off, no additional stack-weight limit, Normal priority and no delivery stop. Leave the equipment and global constraints at their defaults.
| Example | Width x length x height cm | Units | Gross kg per unit | Input m3 | Stackable | This Side Up |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A: loaded pallet order | 101.6 x 121.92 x 200 | 26 | 600 | 64.413 | No | Yes |
| B: upright clearance | 100 x 120 x 269 | 1 | 1000 | 3.228 | No | Yes |
| Example | Method | Entered | Placed | Unplaced | Trailers allocated | Placed m3 | Placed kg | Payload check |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | Max Volume | 26 | 26 | 0 | 1 | 64.413 | 15,600 | Unknown; not assessed |
| A | Best Balance | 26 | 26 | 0 | 1 | 64.413 | 15,600 | Unknown; not assessed |
| B | Max Volume | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0.000 | 0 | Unknown; not assessed |
| B | Best Balance | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0.000 | 0 | Unknown; not assessed |
Example A places the 26 entered units in one trailer; its 15,600 kg cargo total remains an unknown payload assessment. Example B is a single 269 cm-high upright unit: it exceeds the 268 cm reference height and is unplaced. Missing door data is not a clearance pass. Input volume includes unplaced cargo. Zero allocated trailers means no valid placement was found for that item, not that no vehicle is needed.
Both automatic methods ran on 6 October 2026 through the installed 11.63.52 Worker in Node with current default-equipment helpers. Independent audits checked quantities, boundaries, orientation, collision, support and any configured cargo limit. These are not browser, loading-dock or cold-chain acceptance tests.
Will 26 loaded GMA pallets fit?
Example A tests 26 units, each 101.6 x 121.92 x 200 cm and 600 kg gross, with horizontal rotation allowed and stacking disabled. The recorded result is one geometric layout for that entered order, not the maximum pallet capacity. Keep packaging overhang, restraints and cold-air requirements in the real measurements and operating review; a larger pallet or different constraint can change the result.
Air circulation is a separate loading requirement
Thermo King air-management guidance describes air chutes and return-air bulkheads as components for distributing conditioned air. CBM3 does not simulate their airflow or temperature performance. Obtain the loading clearances and operating instructions for the actual refrigeration installation; a geometrically full trailer is not evidence that cooling paths remain usable.
Before release, verify the assigned vehicle, access opening, cargo and axle limits, securing arrangements and temperature-control procedure. Retain actual orientation and stacking permissions. More search time does not guarantee an optimum or minimum trailer count. Available calculations, account access and exports follow the current tool controls; unrestricted anonymous use is not promised.

Prepare an entered reefer pallet order
- Choose 53RFT for the refrigerated road-trailer reference, not a dry van or reefer container. Compare its envelope with the assigned vehicle and confirm the actual door and usable loading area.
- Measure loaded units including wrapping, overhang and pallet base. Enter gross unit weight including pallet tare once. Turn palletization off when the dimensions already describe a loaded pallet.
- Keep Horizontal Only, This Side Up and stacking disabled for the published pallet example. Do not tip or stack a loaded unit just to improve the count.
- Run your entered quantity and inspect placed and unplaced totals. Resolve unknown vehicle payload, access and refrigeration operating requirements separately before release.
Read a 26-pallet layout without overstating capacity
The example uses 26 loaded GMA-format units at 101.6 x 121.92 x 200 cm and 600 kg each. Both recorded methods place that order in one reference trailer. It is not a search for the maximum pallet count: different overhang, heights, restraints or required cooling space can change the real arrangement. The 15,600 kg cargo total does not close the unknown vehicle-payload check.
The manufacturer source labels 68,000 lb as GVWR and excludes the refrigeration unit from its standard weight. Neither number supplies a universally legal cargo allowance. Keep the actual vehicle and operating limits separate; a reference gross rating minus an incomplete standard weight is not a verified payload.
Profile, complete default-input composition and current weight-helper checks were completed for 11.63.55 on 7 October 2026. The table retains the 11.63.52 solver tests dated 6 October; no new solver run is claimed. Input CBM follows the declared six-decimal rounding policy and includes rejected cargo. Cargo totals are not VGM or a verified road-combination gross mass.
53 ft refrigerated trailer planning questions
How many pallets fit in a 53 ft reefer?
Test the order you actually need using complete loaded dimensions, gross weights and realistic rules. The 26-unit result is one entered-order example, not a universal capacity or cooling-space approval for every 53 ft trailer.
Is reefer interior height also the door height?
No. The cited ThermoTech specification table and current preset do not supply a numeric rear-door opening. Missing door data is not a clearance pass; obtain the assigned unit’s actual opening.
Why is the 269 cm upright example left unplaced?
It exceeds the 268 cm software height. Its upright and horizontal-only permissions are preserved. More search time cannot authorize tipping that cargo.
Does this result leave room for cold-air circulation?
That is not established by this rectangular preset. Thermo King discusses air chutes and return-air bulkheads as separate air-management components. Obtain the requirements for the actual installation; CBM3 does not simulate temperature or airflow.
Does unknown payload mean unlimited carrying capacity?
No. The cargo mass can be known while the vehicle’s verified cargo limit is missing. An estimated center of gravity or successful geometric arrangement does not supply that missing approval.
Software compatibility note, 8 October 2026 (Europe/Istanbul): The planning profiles and recorded example inputs were checked against the source-reviewed CBM3 11.63.56 candidate. The earlier example execution dates remain unchanged; this compatibility review is not a new optimization run or physical-loading test. Fleet-provider and carrier references are not manufacturer approval. Confirm the actual unit dimensions, payload and securing requirements.
How to inspect and hand over a loading plan
Use the selected plan and the complete shipment data. Recheck the result after changing cargo, equipment or handling rules.
The reference configuration for this guide is a 6x4 tractor and two-axle refrigerated trailer, including the complete refrigeration equipment in the assumed tare. Match it to the actual vehicle before comparing axle loads. Other axle counts and lift-axle operation require a different model.
See every cargo unit in context
Search the cargo inventory, focus on an item and switch between realistic, operational, top and side views. Inspect pallet layers and height sections.
The inventory separates requested units, units in the selected container, units in other containers and unplaced units. Select a row to find its cargo in the scene; playback and height sections show only part of the complete plan.
Use pallet details to inspect full, partial and mixed pallets. A height section filters the view; it does not remove cargo from the plan. Vehicle bodies and wheels provide visual context.
Prepare clearer warehouse instructions
Use product colors and short codes, named groups and delivery stops. Choose a summary or warehouse PDF for the selected plan.
Assign product colors and short codes to connect the cargo table, 3D view and reports. Group and stop names improve instructions; apply the appropriate loading rules when a sequence must be enforced.
Compare verified alternatives and review any manual moves. A manual reallocation affects the current preview and PDF; saved or shared inputs recalculate the automatic arrangement when reopened. Export again after changes.
Read the estimated center of gravity
Review longitudinal, lateral and height coordinates from known cargo and pallet masses. Check the displayed origin and units before comparing plans.
The estimate assumes each item's mass is centered and excludes vehicle tare. Missing or stale additional-material records can leave the complete-load assessment unavailable; explicitly declare none when no extra materials are present.
Coordinates use the load-space frame, not road height. For Step Deck, X starts at the raised front end and Y at the lower-deck datum; axle-form distances run from the rear toward the cab.
Inspect editable axle-load estimates
Supported road and rail profiles show 2, 4 or 5 axle loads, entered limits and utilization. Show or hide the cards in the simulation.
Open Vehicle axle estimates, apply a matching reference profile or enter your vehicle data, review the values and acknowledge the assumptions. Complete the cargo, pallet and additional-material inventory, then calculate and enable Axle loads.
Reference positions, tare, suspension shares and comparison limits are editable assumptions. These stationary estimates do not check dynamic loads or route legality. Axle results remain in the current session and are not included in saved/shared plans or PDFs.
